On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. I am on the red side, but it is a similar story in southwestern Indiana. There was a two store dealer that sold out to a large dealer about four or five years ago. For a period of time Nothing changed, but as time is went on most of the original store owners people have moved on and been replaced by new people that part I have mixed feelings about. There is one single store dealer a county over, but I know that in time he will be bought these big companies like John Deere case IH do not want single store dealers in their network. They want these large dealers because they can control the prices and like you said you have less options where the world I don’t like it either but it is the way it is here as well.

As for your fiber you dont up to the roadway there a right of way depending who owns the rd ,cam be 25 to 50 feet from center of roadway on each side of the rd, but if look at the surveys its survey to the center of the rd you pay tax on that right of way but the township or state can do what they want with it no matter what you say.

      You are right on the rates. This farm is more of a custom arrangement. Neighbor planted some rye on outside edge of 3 fields 2 beans nother one had something for corn, can still spot it to a t, slowed down dramatically compared to where was conventional tillage

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer 5 дней назад

      Corn is a very sensitive one for cover crops. I think you have to be very careful with what you choose to use for the cover. I also think you need to run a starter fertilizer. Soybeans are definitely less sensitive to something like rye, but it certainly slows them down some. Like I said, our herbicides also slow them down. You just have to pick your battles carefully. I didn't put a residual on a field of beans for logistical reasons. Those beans were easily 3-4 if not 5-6 days of growth ahead of an adjacent field with a residual. We run very crop safe stuff as well. Zidua SC or tendovo for all soybeans. The only downside was that the no-residual soybeans were flush with waterhemp...

    • @allenwalters9068

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer 5 дней назад

      I think you are right. We are all guilty of waiting too long to post spray these beans. The residuals work, just not forever. We need to start treating everything like it's non-gmo. Spray based on calendar and not when you see a flush of weeds. I let those march beans sit without a post pass for 7ish weeks. They were still fairly clean, but I think there were high pressure spots with too many big waterhemp that liberty wouldn't entirely kill. That's what we are seeing break back through.

    Typical RoGator,,,,, they are cheap for a reason, the booms wear out and come apart. I tried one, and after the first year and about 25,000 acres. Boom had cracks all over it. Would t warranty it. I deep sixed it and went back to a Deere and now I have the carbon fiber booms. Had them two years and not a problem one. They may or may not have had high speed impacts with the ground,,,, I’ve planted cover crops since the late 90’s. You’re right, there is give and take. It’s does put you behind. Especially on a dry year. However, you are a hundred percent right, the organic matter pays off. I won’t quit doing it. But I quit using rye. It gets too big and rank some years, so I only plant beardless wheat, and hit it with burn down before it heads out. On the dealership, in my lifetime it’s happened to me 3 times. First was a family owned dealership my dad and granddad dealt with. They sold out to High Plains which was a monster. They ended up closing down and selling off several stores including ours. But two brothers bought it 15 years ago and it’s better than ever. Change is inevitable and nothing stays the same. Roll with it Marty! If they don’t treat you right, you have options. Just don’t let your boy fall for that imitation green and red wheels!

    Buring cable for years. There are easements on all your ground. 99% of the time it's telephone poles to roadway. On every piece of ground in the USA

      I just didn't know the easements were universal to different companies.

    They don’t need your permission. It’s an easement. For as much as you talk I’d think you’d know that.

      I literally indicate that I was unsure about it. It's a completely different company than the current provider in the area, so there is no way that they would share their private easement with a competitor. Someone else said that Illinois passed a law for internet companies to not need easements to run new fiber.

    Here in upstate NY, jd dealership are being ate up by large ones. Now u can buy a lawn mower from any store but tractors can be only purchased by areas. No way to get better prices, the big get bigger and we the consumer have to eat it if you're loyal to the brand.... Just wrong

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer 5 дней назад

      There is a lot more competition in the residential lawnmower market than there is in tractors. I can think of 5+ different big lawnmower brands available at different stores in town, but there is only 1 tractor dealership here. It's all sunshine and roses when grain prices are high. When things come back to reality, farmers need to start thinking long term with their money and not just spending it all on outrageously priced equipment. We aren't innocent of that ourselves.

    In ND , utilities can run lines in the road right-of-way without land owner permission. Some sort of state law allows it.

    Andy you said you game? What are you playing these days?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer 5 дней назад

      I don't play nearly as much because of the little kids. I always played a lot of Rocket League, Call of Duty, Halo, and occasionally games like Total War and Civilization. My son and I have played some Minecraft lately, but he is still a bit young to figure it all out.

    Thirty years ago, the home farm where I live now, was farm #2 at the then ASCS office in Bremer County Iowa. Dad was pretty proud of that. We have since combined the farm and the neighboring farm when we purchased it. Then a new farm number was issued to us. Dad was disappointed to lose that #2.

      It's funny the things that you take pride in, even if they aren't really that important. It's pretty neat that you had that farm number!

    I went thru chemo last yr for AML and now yesterday had to take our dog from glen carbon animal hospital to U of I small animal clinic to find out he has cancer. We are looking at shutting down spraying on our farm and either going back old school farming or just take it out of production and grown native grasses or trees. My 6430 came from sloans up your way

      I should've clarified... they weren't a small dealership, even with just 4 stores. They had to have had every bit of 75+ employees working for them from parts, service, sales, and support. It just felt special because we had worked with the family for so long!

    I think John Deere has encouraged, pressured perhaps, consolidation of dealer ownership for some time now. Such consolidation happened several years ago here in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer 5 дней назад

      I know that the original consolidation may have had some corporate pressure. That was 7-8 years ago at least, and I'm not sure about this one.

      Consolidation of JD dealerships took place abut 15 to 20 years ago in Alabama and Georgia. We were told it was to allow dealerships the ability to buy in bulk from JD. Some dealerships now have as many as 20 locations across the southeast. They still have order parts or get them from another location. The quality of service has declined significantly.
